Gian Maria Campedelli is participating in this workshop, which brings together researchers, policymakers and professionals to explore how science can contribute to a deeper understanding of organised crime and more effective policies to combat it. His presentation is dedicated to the theme of the Mafia, politics and machine predictions.

Violence remains one of the most pressing and complex challenges of our time. Driven by the expansion of organized crime and entrenched cartel networks, this violence has profound social, political, and economic consequences across many regions. Despite decades of intervention, policy responses have often been reactive, fragmented, or disconnected from the evidence emerging from scientific research.

This workshop brings together leading scholars and practitioners from institutions including Harvard University, El Colegio de México (Colmex), and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to explore how science can contribute to preventing cartel violence. By fostering a dialogue across disciplines and sectors, the event seeks to identify the mechanisms that fuel organised crime and to outline policy interventions rooted in empirical evidence.
