In a region like Trentino, ranked among the top for quality of life, Fondazione Bruno Kessler is not only a scientific institution: it is an ecosystem where frontier research becomes a driver of innovation for society. The future isn’t something we wait for here; we build it by investing in our most valuable resource: people.
We believe that excellence arises from the meeting of individual passions and global challenges. For this reason, “Growing at FBK” means embarking on a journey of continuous learning.
Through the Talent Development Program, we nurture each person’s potential: we transform curiosity into capability, offering a clear roadmap to guide them through diverse and ambitious career paths.
We have outlined five Strategic Career Pathsthat enable everyone to relate to and evolve within their professional journey. Through our in-house Academy – a true engine of continuous learning—we define growth objectives and tailor-made training activities together, drawing on a catalog designed to build the key skills needed to meet professional challenges.
We are an international community with colleagues from over 60 countries. We offer a unique mentoring environment that not only supports structured research staff but also extends to PhD candidates, undergraduates, and high school students we regularly host, with the goal of helping them discover their professional aspirations.

FBK has always aimed for excellence both in fundamental research that advances knowledge and in more mature fields of science and technology that enable greater and more immediate economic and social impact. The Strategic Plan sets out the strategic objectives with a 2027 horizon.
This focus translates into a range of initiatives, from science communication to scientific excellence at the European level, including the promotion of applied research pathways and the scouting and support of those with a strong potential to create promising spinoffs.
PoC by Trentino
The PoC by Trentino Program identifies the most innovative ideas (proofs of concept) from FBK’s research staff, based on researchers’ expertise and any results already achieved, with the aim of bringing them to market through spin-offs, patents, or other avenues. Contact person: Danilo Ropele
FBK is a global institution, and as such, it must actively promote innovative, cutting-edge research rather than simply follow trends, fostering a true hotbed of disruptive ideas. We aim to guide researchers through the competitive process of the European Research Council. The program spans multiple years and, each year, supports and guides proposals to the ERC. There are three types of grants: Starting, Consolidator and Advanced. Contact person: Paolo Traverso
The ability to communicate knowledge is a skill that is developed through method and practice, by learning to transform complex findings into clear messages that are accessible to a variety of audiences. The science ambassador community is made up of young researchers trained for this purpose – voices and faces that represent the diversity of expertise within FBK. Contact person: Michela Antino
"The story of our organization is the story of the people—its workers—who embody and give voice to FBK, both tangibly and intangibly, and who are a defining factor in its performance and reputation."
The Foundation’s organizational model recognizes the central importance of knowledge sharing and fosters community-building based on the scientific specializations of its members. The research and innovation ecosystem at FBK is thus nourished by peer-to-peer exchanges and mutual support among colleagues who share their passions. This social capital comes into play for cutting-edge projects on a European scale as well as for solidarity initiatives at the local or international level. For example, the FBK Club regularly promotes social activities and offers services and opportunities for members and their families.
