Technologies against floods, fires and extreme weather conditions
The I-REACT research project, funded by the European Commission and coordinated by the Istituto Superiore Mario Boella (ISMB) of Turin, an institution of the Compagnia di San Paolo, launched on October 13 2018, on the occasion of the International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction, a free smartphone application to enable citizens to act against floods, fires and extreme natural events.
In two years, the European project has developed technological tools to prevent and improve emergency management. Among the technologies developed there are a Big Data platform to better predict the occurrence of this type of events, wearable bracelets and smart glasses for first responders, which allow them to receive and send information without the need to use their hands, and a system of decision support for emergency coordinators, which allows them to better manage emergency operations thanks to the information gathered and provided by the system.
FBK has developed a high resolution 14-day heat wave forecast system and risk assessment for flood, fire and heat waves for all Europe.
Now begins a new phase with the transformation of the research project into a business initiative.
