M’illumino di Meno – 14th edition

M'illumino di meno | "I use less light" is a symbolic initiative aimed at raising awareness on energy saving launched in 2005 by the Cayerpillar show broadcast by Rai Radio 2

Named after the famous verses of Morning by Giuseppe Ungaretti (“M’illumino | d’immenso”, whose rough translation could be “I flood myself with the light of the immense”), it is organized arounf February 16, the day whoch marks the entry into force of the Kyoto protocol.

The campaign, launched nationwide through the microphones of Rai Radio 2, invites everybody to minimize their power consumption by turning off the largest number of non-essential electrical devices.

Initially directed to citizens only, it has been joined, at local level first, by municipalities, and later by the Cabinet of Ministers under the Patronage of the ministry of Environment.

In 2008 Hans-Gert Pöttering, President of the European Parliament, expressed recognition on the initiative by calling it “an event that has a symbolic value and a tangible effect.”
