Hackathon with Microsoft

LHCb/CERN & Microsoft Azure OpenHack

EIT Digital – Trento Co-Location Centre

Via Sommarive 18, Povo

On September 11-13, 2019 in Trento, Italy we invite you to join developers from Microsoft and physicists from the LHCb experiment at CERN, Fondazione Bruno Kessler, and the University of Liverpool to participate in a 3-day event focused on learning through hands-on experimentation called OpenHack.

OpenHack is not a scripted step by step guided exercise. At this event, you will work in teams with colleagues from physics, data science, and computer science backgrounds on a number of challenges based on real data designed to mimic the development experience of the LHCb experiment. Microsoft software development engineers and LHCb physicists will be available to help in a coaching capacity.

During OpenHack you will:

  • Learn how to approach data analysis for the LHCb experiment at CERN
  • Learn how to search for the “unexpected”: apply Microsoft’s ML technologies and deep learning methods to high-energy physics experimental data using anomaly detection
  • Network with fellow community members and other PhD students, as well as Microsoft developers
  • Enjoy a challenging fun learning environment
