Roberto Viola, Director-General of DG Connect of the European Commission, is the protagonist of the fifth  Bruno Kessler Lecture.

The topic selected for the 2017 Lectio is “Internet of Humans” namely how we would like the internet of the future to be, a vision inspired talk by an international protagonist and a priviledged observer on the Internet and on how the coming of digital technology is changing, and will more and more often change, our lives and the world we live in.

The Bruno Kessler Lecture is the Foundation’s institutional event par excellence  and is held on a yearly basis by top profile international scholars who are invited to deal with current topical issues also for non-specialist audiences.

The first Lecture was held in the spring of 2013 by Michael Spence, professor at New York University and recipient of the 2001 Nobel prize for Economics; the second one by prof. Jared Diamond, Pulitzer Prize recipient for general nonfiction in 2008 with “Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies”; the third one by English mathematician and Faraday Prize recipient Marcus du Sautoy. Last year, the protagonist was prof. Heiner Bielefeldt, United Nations Special Rapporteur, who held a lecture titled “The provocative potential of religious freedom, the experience of a special rapporteur of the United Nations”.
