FBK for “Informatici Senza Frontiere”
The Non-profit
Created in 2005, Informatici Senza Frontiere, Italian for Computer Engineers without Borders, is a Non-profit that has now ten regional sections, over three hundred members and hundreds of projects in their records. In 2013 it attended the UN’s ITU World Summit as a European representative of what IT can do in disadvantaged contexts.
In a changing world, Informatici Senza Frontiere proposes a more intelligent, sustainable and disadvantaged-friendly use of technology. It offers its own time, skills, experience and passion for IT to pursue non-profit projects, privileging marginalized and difficult contexts and emergencies in Italy and in developing countries.
It works to bridge the digital divide and foster a growth process, individual or group, that will bring each one to consciously take possession of their potential through knowledge and computer technology. It is based on the values of respect for human dignity and solidarity and makes inclusion and development its own belief.
The Festival
Informatici Senza Frontiere promotes a Festival entirely devoted to the use of new technologies to serve those contexts that need the help and support that computing can provide such as hospital or aqueduct operation in developing countries, training for kids in disadvantaged neighborhoods and areas of our cities and in prisons; substance abuse treatment programs, courses to overcome the digital divide of the elderly or refugees fleeing from places of conflict, cyberbullying, and computer scams.
The Informatici senza Frontiere Festival is therefore an opportunity to discuss these issues, participate in workshops, involve local communities for a responsible use of technology, get acquainted with people who decide to share a portion of their life and skills to help overcome the new gaps that are being created and are widening in the digital society.
The Program
The Festival will take place in the heart of the city of Rovereto and will offer a program of over 50 talks, conferences, seminars and workshops. Fondazione Bruno Kessler is proud to take part with a series of events that you can find out by clicking HERE
The many guests will include FBK President, Francesco Profumo, former Minister of Education.
