Pubblici, consumi, identità. Per una storia sociale della televisione in Italia | Audiences, ways of consumption, identities. For a social history of television in Italy
Using the social and cultural history of early Italian television (1954-1969) as a case study, the seminar will focus on the analysis of television consumption among the popular classes in Italy in the 1950s and 1960s. Starting from its early days, using a series of exemplifying sources such as diaries, letters, illustrated news magazines and oral memories, it will attempt to outline a history of television audience through the changes of society in the 1950s, overturning the typical hierarchical perspective of Italian television studios, consistently focused, from a strictly political perspective, on the bradcaster rather than on receivers.
