POLICY PAPER on the role of religious actors in the definition of policies on Artificial Intelligence

20/01/2022 The document "Shaping the AI Transformation: The Agency of Religious and Belief Actors" addresses the issue of the increasingly relevant and massive advent and spread of AI in society, offering 10 recommendations for shaping this new tool and making sure that its use is fair and respectful of the diversity of individuals.

The recommendations have been designed for religious actors, of any denomination or background (Religious and Belief Actors), policy makers and researchers working in the field of AI and religion and summarize the views of the FBK Center for Religious Studies on multiple interactions of religious actors with Artificial Intelligence technologies, in the hope that they can help guide future interactions in a socially useful way.

The text is also the recap of the Center’s research and action work in recent years, in a process, led by director Prof. Marco Ventura, of progressive integration into the strategic development of the entire Foundation.

The document is divided into three sections:

  1. The role of religious actors in the definition of AI policies
  2. Religion literacy and AI literacy
  3. Research and production of knowledge on AI
