“The Veil in the Islamic World” Seminar at FBK-ISR

    On the occasion of the Re-velation exhibit - open until April 30 - the Tridentine Diocesan Museum in collaboration with the Center for Religious Studies (FBK-ISR), the Religion Today Film Festival and the Diocesan Center for Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue, has organized a series of meetings aimed at stimulating the discussion on a 'hot' issue, which provokes discussion: the veil worn by Islamic women

    Speakers

    Sumaya Abdel Qader, born in Perugia from Jordanian parents, graduated in biology and in linguistic and cultural mediation at the University of Milan; she obtained a master’s degree in sociology at the University of Milan-Bicocca. She deals with immigration, new Italians, interculturality-multiculturalism, cultural processes, cultures, combating violence and gender discrimination, young people, religions and the Middle East. She writes for several blogs and, in 2008, published the book entitled Porto il velo, adoro i Queen.

    Sara Hejazi researcher at FBK-ISR, an anthropologist and journalist of Iranian origin, deals with religious movements, sexuality and gender revolutions in complex societies. She has conducted research on Islamic mysticism, on the relationship between women and religions and on contemporary monasticism. She has produced numerous reports on social and custom transformations that characterize Italy and Iran. She has published L’altro Islamico. Leggere l’Islam in Occidente, La felicità del meno. Le dieci regole dei monaci per vivere meglio, Il velo dell’Iran: Tasselli dell’identità femminile iraniana fuori e dentro i confini della nazione.
