ISR | Davide Zordan Lecture 2017 by Anthony Carroll

"The dialogue with sceptics as a means to renewal in theology"

Aula Grande, FBK Sede

FBK-Trento

The Davide Zordan Lecture is annually held in the Fall. It was established to honor the memory of Davide Zordan, a researcher of the Center for Religious Studies of FBK, who died in 2015, when he was only 47 years old. Developing the mission of the Center on the study of the interaction between religion and innovation, and being innovation and secularisation tightly linked, the lecture topic is the role of theology in a secular society.

In the presentation of this year Anthony Carrol will explore how the dialogue between religious believers and non-believers can be a source of renewal in contemporary theology and philosophy of religion. Starting with an investigation of the nature of religious disagreement, the speaker will draw on his recent experience of dialogue with the non-religious to outline some of the key issues that have arisen in these exchanges and to sketch how these might be fruitfully developed through further theological and philosophical exploration.

The lecture will be held in English with simultaneous translation into Italian.
