FBK-ISR | Doctor can I have my say? Treatment choices or life choices?

Two evenings devoted to Advanced Directives (DAT) on February 16 and 23

Oratorio del Duomo

Via Cristoforo Madruzzo 45

We will reflect on the meaning and value of treatment choices, including end of life decisions, and the possibility of giving advanced directives, in two evenings dedicated to this topic and organized by the Pastoral for Health Office of the Diocese of Trento, in collaboration with Fondazione Bruno Kessler’s Center for Religious Studies.

Starting from the approval of Act No. 219 dated December 22, 2017, “Rules on informed consent and advance directives for treatment”, and in the light of what is already possible to do in the Province of Trento, Friday, February 16 at 8:15 pm, we will be discussing the topic “Doctor, can I have my say? TREATMENT CHOICES OR LIFE CHOICES? The new Advanced Directives Act: positive aspects and issues, with reference to the local situation”. Speakers will include: Elena Bravi, Director of the Clinical Psychology Unit of the Province of Trento Healthcare System, Lucia Galvagni, researcher at the Center for Religious Studies at Fondazione Bruno Kessler, and Edoardo Geat, Director of the Department of Anesthesiology of the Province of Trento Healthcare System.

Friday, February 23, 2018 at 8:15 pm Carlo Casalone, physician and moral theologian, Jesuit and member of the Pontifical Academy for Life, will illustrate “The Christian view of the new law on advance directives”.

During the two meetings, we will reflect on how the new ways of caring for and accompanying the person in their final stages of life questions us and on the contribution that religions and ethics can offer today. This topic reflects the mission of the Center for Religious Studies, focusing on the possible relationship between religion and innovation, and is part of ISR’s research project on medicine, ethics and religions.

The event will be held at the Aula Magna Hall of the Oratorio del Duomo, via Madruzzo, 45, Trento, at 8:15 pm on February 16 and 23, 2018.
