KoM – The Photonics Explorators
The Esploratori di Fotonica project is a network project between educational institutions and local organizations, an initiative supported by the Caritro Foundation, coordinated by the CNR Photonics and Nanotechnology Institute (IFN), in collaboration with Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK), the “Galileo Galilei” High School in Trento, the “Da Vinci” High School in Trento, the “A. Degasperi” Educational Center at Borgo Valsugana and the “Antonio Rosmini” High School in Rovereto.
The project aims to promote PHOTONICS among students and the general public as a pilot example of a curious and engaging approach to the topics of science and technology, through specific initiatives and the development and experimentation of new methodologies in teaching through interactive activities, putting the students at the center of the action.
Seminars and scheduled visits to the local IFN and FBK enable students to deepen theoretical concepts and to learn more about the technologies employed in the research world; furthermore, lab activities allow students to experience the physical phenomena by which the devices that are used today in everyday life work.
Direct collaboration between the world of research and the world of school improves schools’ approach to state-of-the-art scientific and technological content that researchers know and can convey. Finally, the competition activity aims to promote healthy competition between students and teachers from the same school, and will be an opportunity to exchange experiences and to share ideas and results with other non-participating educational institutions, families and the general public.
