  • What weight does the attention that the media grant to history books? Researchers from FBK-Isig Fernanda Alfieri and Katia Occhi discussed this with journalists Simonetta Fiori from the newspaper Repubblica and Alberto Sinigaglia from the newspaper La Stampa on April 18 2012 at the third meeting of the series La storia in prima pagina(History on the front page), organized in Trento by the Istituto storico italo-germanico (FBK-Isig) (Italian-Germanic Historical Institute) of the Fondazione Bruno Kessler, directed by Paolo Pombeni. The series of meetings “La storia in prima pagina” features culture page editors froom the major national newspapers and the directors of local newspapers who discuss the topic with the new generation of FBK-Isig's researchers.

    There will also be a little bit of FBK in the next Android release. The solution to a bug in one of the most famous operating systems worldwide proved effective and will be introduced in the coming months in the updates for smartphones and tablet computers.    

    It could have made devices based on Google's operating system unusable and easily exploited by malicious software applications. The vulnerability, though, was identified and neutralized by a group of researchers from Italian universities and research centers, such as FBKthe university of Genoa, the E-Campus Telematic University  and  the University of Padua. 

    In this month's spotlight, Alessandro Armando, Head of the Security & Trust” research unit at the Fondazione Bruno Kessler in Trento and coordinator of the Artificial Intelligence Lab of the DIST, tells us what they found out.

  • Behind the impressive advance of PCs and the Internet there are many researchers working in the field of language technologies. One of the outposts of this kind of research is located right in the Trentino region, at the Fondazione Bruno Kessler, that has recently obtained funding for 3 million euros from the EU for the development of projects linked to machine translation systems, able to analyze and synthesize in a short time millions of multimedia files to extract ever more effective information.
