Microdisco che contiene i nano cristalli di silicio(m.l.) The Advanced Photonics and Photovoltaics (APP) Unit of the Materials & Microsystems Centre of Fondazione Bruno Kessler has published its paper in the acclaimed journal Physical Review Letters of the American Physical Society.
Thanks to the cooperation with the Nanoscience Lab of the Faculty of Physics of the University of Trento, and the Micro-manufacturing Laboratory (MTLab) of FBK, researchers Mher Ghulinyan and Georg Pucker have demonstrated the effects of the experiments conducted in the Fifties by the US physicist and Nobel prize winner Edward Mills Purcell on silicon nanocrystals.

Il laboratorio NL dell'Università degli Studi di TrentoVia a nano on micro approach, the original study conducted by the APP unit observed for the first time ever at room temperature the Purcell effects on micro-disks composed of silicon crystals, visible exclusively by using a special microscope. This new discovery opens the doors to new experimentation prospects in the field of photonics and quantum electrodynamics.
