A European comparison of centre-right governments
Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th September - a conference organized by Fondazione Bruno Kessler of Trento.
(v.l.) Sociologists, political experts and European historians are scheduled to meet on Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 September at Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) in Trento to debate on the topic “La politica di Berlusconi 1994-2009. I governi del centrodestra in un confronto europeo” (Berlusconi’s politics - 1994 - 2009. A European comparison of centre-right governments).
The conference is open to the public and is organized by the Centre for Italian-German Historical Studies of Fondazione Bruno Kessler in cooperation with the Institut für Zeitgeschichte (Institute of Contemporary History) of Munich.
At 3.00 p.m. of Monday 28, in the Sala Grande hall of Via S. Croce, 77 in Trento, the conference will be opened by Gian Enrico Rusconi, director of the FBK Centre for Italian-German Historical Studies and by Hans Woller of the Institut für Zeitgeschichte, both coordinators of the conference together with Thomas Schlemmer (Institut für Zeitgeschichte).
The works will begin with the study session on “Foreign politics and European politics” that includes speeches by: Paolo Pombeni “Berlusconi’s Europe: the unsustainable lightness of a special dream” and by Andrea Di Michele “Berlusconi – Putin: the reasons behind the affinity”. The next theme will be “Labour policies and social politics” with Chiara Saraceno who will speak about “Family policies in Italy within the European context”, Ugo Trivellato with his paper on “Flexibility in job relations and inadequacy of the protection system in Italy” and Thomas Schlemmer who will talk about “Labour market policies between beaten tracks and the neo-liberal reform”.
On the following day, Tuesday 29 September, the work session will begin at 9.00 a.m. with the theme “Internal politics and the policy of law” with papers by Gregor Hoppe “Artificial ideological dispute and institutional self-deterioration. Internal politics and policy of law in the Berlusconi era” and by Amedeo Osti Guerrazzi “Phobias and internal politics. The centre-right and Gypsies”.
This will be followed by the next session on “Political use of history and changes in civil society” with speeches by Aram Mattioli, “National reconciliation and the shared memory. Remarks on the revision of history in Berlusconi’s Italy” and by Ilvo Diamanti, “Berlusconi and anti-communism in the absence of communism”.
The conference will close with the final discussion period attended by: Helmut Altrichter, Martin Baumeister, Stefano Cavazza, Friederike Hausmann, Hans Heiss, Stefan Karner, Lothar Ketternacker, Henning Klüver, Carl Wilhelm Macke, Hélène Miard-Delacroix, Horst MÖller and Rolf Petri.
Simultaneous translation services will be provided for the conference.
