Seminar's abstract:
Poland is now one of the key states of the new 27-member European Union. Its weight is not given only by an impetuous economic development, which has proved one of the most successful in these troubled decades, but also on its key geostrategic position at the crossroads between the traditional "western" Europe and what remains of Russian power. To understand Poland is to understand the future of Europe. Once the xenophobic nonsense of the invasion of the "Polish plumber" -a theme that a decade ago was still in vogue-was overcome, it was clear that we were dealing with a partner that is key for cultural and economic weight and for its social dynamism: a "young" nation from many points of view, but "old-hearted" from many others. Its significance is particularly felt in the Trentino region that was with part of Poland under the Hapsburg Empire.
To reflect and inform us of what the "new" Poland is and what its way of relating to Europe is, the consul of Poland in Milan, dr. Krzysztof Stralka will be in Trento, at the Italian-Germanic Historical Institute. Dr. Stralka, besides being a diplomatic representative of his country, is also a history scholar who has worked at the University of Cracow
