SIGNATURE OF THE CNR-FBK CHARTER OF UNDERSTANDING

The event begins at 3.00 p.m. of Monday, 8 June, with the opening address by the President of FBK, Prof. Andrea Zanotti.The address will be followed by the lecture entitled: “Il potere e il ruolo della scienza” (The power and the role of science) held by Prof. Nicola Cabibbo.Nicola Cabibbo is a celebrity of Italian and international physics. In the past he has held prominent positions, such as that of President of INFN, the National Institute of Nuclear Physics and of Enea, the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and the Environment, and since 1993 he has been President of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.He teaches particle physics at the Enrico Fermi institute of the “La Sapienza” University of Rome and is the author of scientific discoveries such as the so-called "Cabibbo angle", a parameter that allows to understand the function of the weak interactions among particles and that has made him one of the most quoted physicists in scientific magazines throughout the world.This will be followed by a speech by the CNR President Prof. Luciano Maiani.The session will close with the conclusions of the President of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Lorenzo Dellai.At 4.15 p.m. there will be the inauguration of the joint CNR-FBK laboratories at the CNR site in Via alla Cascata No. 56 in Povo and the signature of the charter.

L’evento si aprirà alle ore 15.00 di lunedì 8 giugno con il benvenuto del Presidente FBK prof. Andrea Zanotti.

Sarà poi il momento della lecture dal titolo “Il potere e il ruolo della scienza” tenuta dal prof. Nicola Cabibbo.
Nicola Cabibbo è uno dei grandi nomi della fisica italiana ed internazionale. Nel passato ha ricoperto ruoli di primo piano come quello di presidente dell'Istituto nazionale di fisica nucleare e dell'Enea, l'Ente per l'Energia e l'Ambiente, e dal 1993 è presidente della Pontificia Accademia delle Scienze.
Insegna fisica delle particelle elementari nell'istituto intitolato a Enrico Fermi alla Sapienza di Roma ed è autore di scoperte scientifiche, quali il cosiddetto "angolo di Cabibbo", un parametro che permette di capire il funzionamento delle interazioni deboli delle particelle elementari, che lo hanno reso il fisico più citato nelle riviste scientifiche di tutto il mondo.
In programma quindi l’intervento del Presidente CNR prof. Luciano Maiani.
Seguiranno le conclusioni del Presidente della Provincia autonoma di Trento, Lorenzo Dellai.
Alle ore 16.15  è prevista infine l’inaugurazione dei laboratori congiunti CNR-FBK presso il polo CNR di via alla Cascata, 56 a Povo e la firma del protocollo d’intesa.
