The Prysmian Group of Milan and the Fondazione Bruno Kessler signed an innovative agreement today to promote research and development in four strategic areas of interest\: nanotechnologies\, fibre optics\, development of new materials for the production of energy and TLC cables. The parties signed the agreement this morning at the Provincial Building in the presence of the President. Representing the Fondazione Bruno Kessler were its President\, Andrea Zanotti and the Secretary General\, Andrea Simoni\, while Prysmian was represented by Fabio Romeo\, Director of the Energy Business of Prysmian Cavi e Sistemi Energia S.r.l.\, Agusti Valls\, Head of Research and Development of Prysmian S.p.A. and Mario Tomasi\, Director of Corporate &\; Strategy Development of Prysmian S.p.A..

"\;I am delighted to participate in the signing of this partnership agreement because I believe it is another step toward building operating relationships between Trentino research centres and major representatives of the business world\,” stated the President of the Province. “In this case\, since our partner is a multinational\, the signature reinforces the international qualities of the Trentino system.”
“The agreement signed this morning\,” underlined the President of FBK Andrea Zanotti\, “represents a new phase in the process we have undertaken. It is important for us to do basic research\, but we also have to transfer knowledge. The Prysmian Group\, which began to produce electrical cables in 1879 under the name\, "\;Pirelli Cavi"\;\, now includes 53 plants in 20 countries with a total of 12\,000 employees. Today\, it is an international pacesetter in the field of cables and high technology systems for energy and telecommunications.
The agreement with FBK\, the Trentino research institute that is one of the most active in Italy and around the world with its 350 researchers\, is recognized for its innovative formula that governs the relationship between a private company and a public research organization. In fact\, the partnership is expected to be long term and\, unlike spot agreements signed between companies and research institutions\, should enable the partners to develop and consolidate expertise and operating methods\, making it possible to reduce the start up time of individual projects and related costs.
Prysmian and FBK will organize research projects jointly and also agree on mixed teams of researchers for innovation in the field of nanotechnologies\, fibre optics and new material development for production of energy and telecommunications cables.

Tomorrow the showing of the second film\, “Der Dritte”\, at the FBK’ Center for Italo-German Studies

The film exhibition organized by the Center for Italo-German Historical Studies of Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) continues in cooperation with the film library of the Goethe Institut of Rome and the University of Trento and with the participation of the Cineforum Trento and of the Nuovo Cineforum Rovereto.
After “Spur der Steine”\, screened last Wednesday\, tomorrow at the FBK headquarters in via S. Croce\, 77 at 5.30 p.m. will be the turn of “Der Dritte” (“The Third”)\, a motion picture directed by Egon Günther about female emancipation in the 70’s.
As with the other pictures of the exhibition\, the screening of this film\, shown in the original language (German) with Italian sub-titling\, is free of charge. The screening will be introduced by Prof. Fabrizio Cambi\, a German language professor at the University of Trento.
The exhibition has been coordinated by FBK researchers Magda Martini and Michele Sisto and is the first of a set of events connected to the Study Week 2009of the Center for Italo-German Historical Studies under the title “Riflessioni sulla DDR. Prospettive internazionali e multidisciplinari 20 anni dopo” (Reflections on the GDR. International and Multidisciplinary Perspectives 20 years later)\, scheduled for next October in Trento.
The five films on schedule for the exhibition\, that ends on May 20th\, were produced by DEFA (Deutsche Film-Aktiengesellschaft)\, the State motion picture production company of the German Democratic Republic.

After World War II\, the great film studios of Babelsberg\, which produced many excellent films including Metropolis and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari\, were assigned to the area of Soviet occupation\, namely\, the GDR. This was where\, in 1946\, an exciting and controversial filmmaking adventure began\, in which the state-run film production house DEFA (Deutsche Film-Aktiengesellschaft) appeared alternately as a factory for fulfilling the dreams of the dictatorship and as a place of resistance to power and a beacon of truth through art. The film series this year proposes a five-part exploration of the DEFA’s film production history. The journey begins with Spur der Steine (The Trace of Stones)\, one of the “Kaninchenfilme” banned by the 11th Plenum of the SED’s Central Committee in 1965. It continues with two feature-length films of great creativity and significance that represent the liberalization ignited during Honecker’s time in office\: Der dritte (The Third) and Die Legende von Paul und Paula (The Legend of Paul and Paula). The sense of stagnation of the 1980s is reflected in the static shots of Solo Sunny\, about an enthusiastic singer in Berlin’s underground scene\, and in Die Architekten (The Architects) which portrays one man’s thwarted struggle against a political class incapable of innovation\, filmed in 1989/1990\, during the final months of the GDR.

Margit is a young\, emancipated mathematician without a companion. She is successful in her work and in her private life has grown up her two daughters\, had from different men\, all by herself. After two unsuccessful love affairs\, Margit refuses to comply with the rules of courtship that assign women the passive role and is determined to find her third man all by herself.
In the first years of the international feminist movement\, the socialist world produces an original outlook on the theme of emancipation.

Prosegue la rassegna cinematografica organizzata dal Centro per gli Studi storici italo-germanici della Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK)\, in collaborazione con la cineteca del Goethe Institut di Roma e l’Università degli Studi di Trento e realizzata con la partecipazione del Cineforum Trento e del Nuovo Cineforum Rovereto.
Dopo “Spur der Steine”\, proiettato mercoledì scorso\, domani alle ore 17.30\, presso la sede della FBK in via S. Croce\, 77 (Trento) sarà la volta di “Der Dritte” (“Il terzo”)\, film sul tema dell’emancipazione femminile negli anni ’70\, con la regia di Egon Günther.
Come per gli altri film della rassegna\, la proiezione\, in lingua originale (tedesco) con sottotitoli in italiano\, sarà ad ingresso gratuito. L’appuntamento sarà presentato dall’intervento introduttivo del prof. Fabrizio Cambi\, docente di letteratura tedesca all'Università di Trento.
La rassegna è organizzata dai ricercatori FBK Magda Martini e Michele Sisto e costituisce il primo di una serie di eventi collegati alla Settimana di Studio 2009 del Centro per gli Studi Storici italo-germanici che avrà per titolo “Riflessioni sulla DDR. Prospettive internazionali e multidisciplinari 20 anni dopo”\, in programma il prossimo ottobre a Trento.
I cinque film selezionati per la rassegna\, che si concluderà il 20 maggio\, sono stati realizzati tra la seconda guerra mondiale e la caduta del muro di Berlino dalla DEFA (Deutsche Film-Aktiengesellschaft)\, casa di produzione di stato nella Repubblica Democratica Tedesca.

Dopo la seconda guerra mondiale i celebri teatri di posa di Babelsberg\, dov’erano nati film come Metropolis e Il gabinetto del Dr. Caligari\, vengono assegnati alla zona di occupazione sovietica\, e quindi alla DDR. E' lì che nel 1946 ha inizio un’avventura cinematografica esaltante e controversa\, in cui la casa di produzione di stato DEFA (Deutsche Film-Aktiengesellschaft) appare ora come fabbrica dei sogni al servizio della dittatura\, ora come luogo di resistenza al potere e di ricerca della verità attraverso l’arte. La rassegna di quest’anno propone un viaggio in cinque tappe nel cinema della DEFA\, che inizia con Spur der Steine (Tracce di pietra)\, uno dei “Kaninchenfilme” censurati in seguito all’XI Plenum del Comitato Centrale della SED nel 1965\, e prosegue con due lungometraggi di grande incisività e fantasia\, rappresentativi della liberalizzazione avviata con l’era Honecker\: Der dritte (Il terzo marito) e Die Legende von Paul und Paula (La leggenda di Paul e Paula). Il senso di stagnazione degli anni ’80 si riflette nelle statiche inquadrature di Solo Sunny (Sunny la solista)\, abulica cantante dell’underground berlinese\, e nella vana lotta con una classe politica ormai del tutto incapace di rinnovamento ingaggiata dagli Architekten (Gli architetti)\, girato nel 1989/1990\, durante gli ultimi mesi di esistenza della DDR.

Margit è una giovane matematica emancipata\, ma senza un compagno\: sul lavoro ha ottenuto brillanti risultati e nella vita privata è riuscita a crescere da sola le sue due figlie\, avute da uomini diversi. Dopo due relazioni fallimentari\, Margit rifiuta le norme del corteggiamento che relegherebbero la donna nel ruolo passivo ed è determinata a scegliersi da sola il suo terzo uomo.
Negli anni del movimento femminista internazionale\, dal mondo socialista un’originale prospettiva sul tema dell’emancipazione.

Muoversi in città e fuori potrebbe essere più facile con il supporto di una tecnologia in grado di darci in ogni momento non solo indicazioni di percorso\, ma anche risposte personalizzate sugli orari di uffici pubblici ed esercizi privati\, sui trasporti urbani\, sullo stato del traffico\, sulla presenza o meno di barriere architettoniche.
Trovare una risposta a queste esigenze è l’obiettivo di “Context Aware”\, progetto di ricerca cofinanziato dalla Provincia autonoma di Trento e da Almaviva che la Fondazione Bruno Kessler realizzerà nei prossimi 18 mesi con la partecipazione della cooperativa Handicrea.
Una collaborazione fra industria\, ricerca e cooperative sociali sul territorio per migliorare la mobilità urbana ed extraurbana delle persone\, con particolare attenzione all’accessibilità e al problema delle barriere architettoniche.
Il progetto prevede la realizzazione di un sistema che sarà usufruibile in tutta la città di Trento semplicemente grazie al proprio cellulare.
Oggi il primo meeting per l’avvio del progetto e la presentazione alla stampa da parte di Manuel Fantasia\, responsabile Task Force Trasporti di Almaviva\, Graziella Anesi\, presidente della cooperativa Handicrea\, Andrea Simoni\, segretario generale della Fondazione Bruno Kessler e Cesare Furlanello\, responsabile dell’Unità di Ricerca MPBA della Fondazione Bruno Kessler.
Ad oggi non esistono applicazioni significative che integrano in un’unica soluzione strumenti sensibili al contesto spazio-temporale e quindi in grado di fornire informazioni mirate nel momento e nel luogo in cui l’utente ha necessità di fruirne.
Questo a causa soprattutto della eterogeneità delle infrastrutture tecnologiche di supporto e della limitata capacità delle reti per la trasmissione dei dati.
Il progetto Context Aware si propone di realizzare un prototipo in grado di\:

– fornire a cittadini e turisti informazioni sensibili al contesto e al profilo dell’utente\, quali stato del traffico\, notizie meteo\, orari\, luoghi ed eventi di interesse (manifestazioni\, musei\, mostre)\, barriere architettoniche\;

– permettere la pianificazione\, e la eventuale ripianificazione derivante da modifiche del contesto\, di percorsi personalizzati\;

– operare con i dispositivi portatili più diffusi\, quali PDA\, Notebook\, Smartphone\, per consentire all’utente di configurare l’interfaccia di presentazione dei servizi\;

– localizzare l’utente con la più appropriate tecnologie di posizionamento (GPS\, assisted GPS\, radiolocalizzazione) e scegliere automaticamente il tipo di connessione in funzione della quantità e della qualità della banda disponibile\;

– realizzare servizi di interazione degli utenti con i contenuti del Web Geografico per la fruizione interattiva di database multimediali georiferiti.

Al progetto partecipa anche la cooperativa Handicrea\, molto attiva in Trentino sui temi della diversabilità\, che mette a disposizione le proprie banche dati e competenze per evidenziare le esigenze nella loro complessa diversità. Grazie anche a questo contributo il sistema consentirà l’utilizzo di tecnologie assistive nella fruizione di informazioni di dettaglio su barriere architettoniche di esercizi pubblici e privati.

Mobility inside and outside the city may become easier with the support of a kind of technology capable of providing us at all times not only with route indications but also with personalized answers regarding public office and shop business hours\, city transport\, traffic status and presence or not of architectural barriers.

Finding a solution to these requirements is the main objective of “Context Aware”\, a research project co-financed by the Autonomous Province of Trento and by Almaviva that Fondazione Bruno Kessler will implement in the next 18 months with the participation of the cooperative Handicrea.
This cooperation between industry\, research and local social cooperatives is aimed at improving urban and extra-urban mobility of people in general\, with special focus on accessibility and on the architectural barriers issue.
The project envisages the creation of a system that can then be used in a simple manner throughout the city of Trento via the use of one’s mobile phone.
Today there will be the first meeting for project kick-off and its presentation to the press by Manuel Fantasia\, in charge of the Almaviva Transportation Task Force\, Graziella Anesi\, president of the Handicrea cooperative\, Andrea Simoni\, general secretary of Fondazione Bruno Kessler and Cesare Furlanello\, in charge of the MPBA Research Unit of Fondazione Bruno Kessler.
To date\, no significant applications exist capable of integrating into a single solution instruments sensitive to the space-time context and therefore capable of providing information specific to the time and place where the user intends to exploit it.
This is mainly due to the heterogeneous nature of the technological supporting infrastructures and to the limited capacity of the data transmission networks.
The Context Aware project aims at creating a prototype capable of\:

–   providing citizens and tourists with user context- and profile-sensitive information such as traffic status\, weather conditions\, hours\, places and events of interest (events\, museums\, exhibitions)\, architectural barriers\;

–   allowing the planning of personalized routes and their re-planning in answer to changes in context\, if any\;

–   operating on the most common portable devices such as PDA\, Notebook\, Smartphone\, so as to allow users to configure the service presentation interface\;

–   locating the user using the most suitable positioning technologies (GPS\, assisted GPS\, radio localization) and automatically selecting the connection type according to quantity and quality of available bandwidth\;

–   realizing services for user interaction with the Geographic Web contents for the interactive use of geo-referenced multi-media databases.

The project also envisages the participation of Handicrea\, a cooperative that operates in Trentino with regard to diversability themes and that has put at the project’s disposal its databases and expertise in highlighting the needs in their complex diversity. Thanks also to this precious contribution\, the system will allow the use of assisting technologies for providing detailed information about the presence or not of architectural barriers in public and private buildings.

Lunedì 18 maggio a Trento un incontro sulle “macchine quantistiche” di nuova generazione\, le prospettive e i primi collaudi bancari

(e.b.) Fare un pagamento o un prelievo con il bancomat senza la paura che qualcuno ci possa clonare la card. Fare acquisti sicuri online con la carta di credito. Non temere che qualcuno possa scoprire le nostre coordinate bancarie. Desideri che presto\, in qualche caso già ora\, possono essere esauditi grazie alla fisica quantistica.
La comunicazione quantistica\, infatti\, offre un mezzo più sicuro per trasmettere informazioni segrete. Ciò accade attraverso vari protocolli di crittografia quantistica\, alcuni dei quali sono già stati collaudati\, ad esempio\, per transazioni bancarie totalmente sicure.
Se i protocolli di crittografia comunemente usati\, ovvero i sistemi di codifica e di decodifica delle informazioni\, si basano sulla difficoltà di invertire certe operazioni matematiche e sono quindi in linea di principio “decifrabili” trovando la giusta combinazione\, i sistemi che utilizzano la comunicazione quantistica sono invece a prova di segretezza perché basati sull’impossibilità di clonare lo stato di un sistema quantistico\, che è garantita dalle leggi stesse della natura.

Lunedì 18 maggio si terrà un importante incontro dedicato ai computer quantistici. L'evento è organizzato dall'ECT* della Fondazione Bruno Kessler\, dal Centro BEC-INFM del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche e dal Dipartimento di Fisica dell’Università di Trento. L'incontro si svolgerà nella forma di un colloquio aperto al pubblico\, presso la sala conferenze FBK a Povo (via Sommarive\, 18) alle ore 14.30.

Relatore sarà Ignacio Cirac (Istituto Max Planck di Monaco)\, uno dei più grandi esperti mondiali nel settore dell'informazione quantistica. Il colloquio\, dal titolo “Quantum computers and communication systems”\, sarà seguito da una tavola rotonda condotta da Tommaso Calarco (Università di Ulm)\, coordinatore della Roadmap di Informatica Quantistica della Commissione Europea\, alla quale parteciperanno ricercatori operanti nell’area di Trento ed esterni. Scopo dell’incontro sarà anche quello di individuare nuove sinergie e futuri progetti in area trentina\, per potenziare le ricerche in questo settore emergente della scienza.

I calcolatori quantistici
La capacità di progettare e realizzare vere e proprie “macchine quantistiche” sta aprendo nuove ed entusiasmanti prospettive dal punto di vista sia scientifico sia tecnologico. La computazione quantistica promette\, infatti\, un’immensa potenza di calcolo\, al di là delle capacità di qualsivoglia computer classico attualmente esistente o concettualmente realizzabile.
Essa permette\, inoltre\, di “teletrasportare” uno stato quantistico di un sistema fisico\, offrendo così una nuova forma di comunicazione. Nuove tecnologie vengono costantemente abilitate in questo ambito\: si spazia dagli orologi atomici di altissima precisione (utilizzabili per esempio nella prossima generazione di satelliti GPS) ai cosiddetti “sensori quantistici”\, in grado di misurare certe quantità con sensibilità senza precedenti.
Le ricadute in termini culturali\, scientifici e tecnologici di queste ricerche sono potenzialmente enormi. Per questo motivo non sorprende che i Paesi tecnologicamente e industrialmente più avanzati abbiano indirizzato in questi ultimi anni un massiccio sforzo finanziario proprio verso l’informazione e le tecnologie quantistiche e che le principali industrie collegate al settore\, come Microsoft\, ST Microelectronics\, Philips\, Siemens\, IBM\, Lucent Technologies\, HP\, NEC\, Toshiba abbiano incluso lo studio di queste tecnologie nelle loro linee di ricerca e sviluppo.

Monday\, 18 May in Trento a meeting about next generation “quantum machines”\, their prospects and first bank tests

(e.b.) Payments or withdrawals via ATMs without the fear of someone cloning your card. Safe purchasing online with your credit card. No chance that your bank information is stolen. All of this soon\, some of it even now\, will be solved thanks to quantum physics.
Quantum communication\, in fact\, offer a safer means of transmitting confidential information. This is done using various quantum cryptography protocols\, some of which have already been tested for totally secure banking transactions\, for example.
While commonly used cryptographic protocols\, such as information encrypting and decrypting systems\, are based on the difficulty of inverting given mathematical operations\, and are therefore basically “decryptable” by finding the right combination\, the systems that use quantum communication are totally secure because they are based on the impossibility of cloning the state of a quantum system\, something guaranteed by Nature’s own laws.
On Monday\, 18 May 2009\, an important meeting will be held\, dedicated to quantum computers. The event has been organized by the ECT* of Fondazione Bruno Kessler\, by the BEC-INFM Centre of the CNR – National Research Council and by the Physics Department of the University of Trento. The meeting is open to the public and will be held at the FBK conference hall in Povo (via Sommarive\, 18) at 2.30 p.m..
The speaker is Prof. Ignacio Cirac (Max Planck Institute of Munich)\, one of the world’s greatest experts in quantum information. The meeting\, entitled “Quantum computers and communication systems”\, will be followed by a round table chaired by Tommaso Calarco (University of Ulm)\, coordinator of the Quantum Information Roadmap of the European Commission\, and will see the participation of researchers operating in the Trento area and elsewhere. The purpose of the meeting is also to identify new synergies and future projects in the Trentino area that can enhance research in this emerging scientific sector.

Quantum computers
The possibility of designing and creating veritable “quantum machines” is opening new and exciting scientific and technological frontiers. Indeed\, quantum computing promises immense calculation powers\, beyond the capability of any classical computer currently in existence or conceptually possible.
Quantum computing also allows to “teletransport” a quantum state of a physical system\, thus offering new forms of communication. New technologies are being constantly enabled in this field\, ranging from extremely precise atomic clocks (to be used in next generation GPS satellites\, for example) to so-called “quantum sensors”\, capable of measuring given quantities with unprecedented sensitivity.

Le storie personali di un gruppo di storici ebrei tedeschi costretti ad abbandonare le proprie posizioni accademiche e le proprie case dopo il 1933 saranno invece al centro del seminario di studio “Vite spezzate. Biografie (ri)costruite” organizzato per il giorno seguente\, martedì 19 maggio\, alle ore 10.00\, sempre dal Centro per gli Studi storici della FBK\, in via S. Croce a Trento.
L’incontro coordinato dal ricercatore Massimo Rospocher e introdotto dal direttore del Centro\, Gian Enrico Rusconi\, avrà per protagonista Anthony Mohlo\, professore presso il Dipartimento di Storia dell’Istituto Universitario Europeo (EUI) di Firenze.
Obiettivo fondamentale del seminario sarà comprendere fino a che punto l’esperienza dell’esilio abbia influenzato la produzione storiografica degli studiosi e più in generale la loro percezione del passato. With 110 preferential votes\, Mr. Mariano Anderle has been elected staff representative in the Board of Directors of Fondazione Bruno Kessler.
On May 15th and 18th\, at the voting stations set up in the Foundation’s offices a total of 278 voters (277 valid votes\, 1 invalid) - of which 247 voting at the Povo headquarters and 31 in Via S. Croce - out of the 448 holding the right to vote\, officially elected their representative.

Dr. Anderle\, who succeeds Dr. Bruno Giovanni Caprile\, will hold the office for four years starting from the date of the formal nomination order implemented by Provincial Council’s decree.
Since May 1st\, 2009\, Dr. Anderle\, a FBK researcher (formerly ITC) since 1984\, is head of the special project “Promotion and internationalization of the Trentino Research System” at the Department of Innovation\, Research and ICT of the Autonomous Province of Trento.

Abstract del Convegno
Questo convegno si iscrive nella tradizione scientifica della Fondazione Bruno Kessler\, che al Concilio di Trento (1545-1563) ha dedicato diversi convegni a taglio storico e teologico\, in occasione cioè del 450° anniversario della sua apertura. Alla base dell’attuale ritorno di interesse per quella assise conciliare non c’è però una ricorrenza\, ma un’evidenza che chiede costantemente di essere verificata e analizzata\, approfondita e attualizzata\: l’accesso delle donne al magistero teologico delle diverse chiese comporta e\, nel contempo\, impone un ripensamento attento e coraggioso della lunga e complessa tradizione cristiana. Di tale evidenza anche il Coordinamento Teologhe Italiane intende farsi carico. Guardare a quel momento emblematico per la cristianità europea in prospettiva di genere significa accompagnare la rilettura dell’evento conciliare con “contrappunti” che ne mettano in luce la portata che esso ha avuto anche per la storia delle donne e\, in particolare\, per la storia della loro fede in Cristo.
Nessuno\, durante il Tridentino\, ha portato esplicitamente a tema una “questione femminile” e nessuno dei canoni chiusi da anatema riguarda le donne. Solo raramente i padri conciliari si sono occupati di loro in modo esplicito\, come mostrano il decreto sul matrimonio o quello sull’insegnamento religioso\, le regole per la clausura monastica o la richiesta per le religiose di sottomissione al vescovo. Il linguaggio dell’esclusione\, una dottrina presuntamente asessuata\, uno specifico modello di chiesa paternalistica e clericale hanno però connotato in modo decisivo la vita ecclesiale delle donne.
Decisivo significa irreformabile? Oppure anche il rapporto donne-chiese può essere considerato una pagina del ripensamento portato avanti dal gruppo di lavoro interconfessionale Lehrverurteilungenkirchentrennend? che\, insieme a un’attualità ecclesiale non sempre pacificata e pacificante\, ha imposto di non consegnare il Tridentino al passato né\, tanto meno\, a un passato che non passa\, ma di continuare a coglierne significati e valori per verificarne il potenziale di attualità? La partecipazione delle donne alla ricerca teologica oltre che a tutti gli altri ambiti della vita e della missione delle chiese\, non ricorda forse che gli anatemi di ieri sono diventati sfide di oggi?
Sull’orizzonte complesso di questi interrogativi\, il convegno intende puntare lo sguardo.

Abstract of the Conference
This conference falls within the scientific traditions of Fondazione Bruno Kessler\, that has dedicated to the Council of Trent (1545-1563) various conferences\, on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of its opening\, focusing on its historical and theological aspects. The basis for this current flashback on the Council is not an anniversary but rather a fact that incessantly calls for in-depth verification and topical analysis\, namely the access of women to the teachings of the various churches that requires and at the same time demands a careful and brave review of the long and complex Christian tradition. Coordinamento Teologhe Italiane intends to focus on this aspect\, and indeed the observation of that event that proved emblematic for European Christianity from the gender viewpoint means that the Council should be re-read with the use of “counterpoints” that highlight its significance also within the history of womankind and\, in particular\, in the history of their faith in Christ.
Nobody\, during the Council\, explicitly addressed a “female issue” and none of the canons ending in anathema regarded women. Only rarely did the Council’s Fathers explicitly speak about women\, as seen in the decree on marriage or on religious teaching\, on the rules for monastic seclusion or the request for the submission of nuns to the bishop. The language of exclusion\, a presumably asexual doctrine and a specific paternalistic and clerical Church model have all decisively marked women’s ecclesiastical life\, however.
Does decisive mean unreformable? Or can the women-churches relationship be considered an occasion for rethinking\, as promoted by the inter-confessional work group ‘Lehrverurteilungenkirchentrennend’? which\, together with a not always pacified and pacifying ecclesiastical reality\, has imposed not to leave the Council in the past and\, even more poignantly\, into a past that never passes\, but rather to continue harvesting its significances and values in order to verify its potential topicality? Doesn’t the participation of women in theological research\, as well as in all other fields of life and mission of the churches\, remind us that perhaps yesterday’s anathemas have become today’s challenges?
The aim of the conference is to take a look at this horizon of complex questions.

Today the first session of the international theological conference organized by the Centre for Religious Studies of Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) and by Coordinamento delle Teologhe Italiane (CTI).

(v.l.) “I confess I am quite excited\, because I have wished for years to meet the theological women of Trento\, the site of the famous Council”\, says Marinella Perroni\, President of Coordinamento delle Teologhe Italiane at the opening ceremony of the international theological conference organized for today and tomorrow in Trento with the Centre for Religious Studies of Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK).
“Today”\, adds Perroni\, “we can look at the Council of Trent with the awareness that the Second Vatican Council has turned over a new page and therefore that the Trento era has become a thing of the past. The Council of Trent\, however\, is a natural point of departure towards the acquisition with historical and theological knowledge of the path of faith of the churches and therefore of women”.
A re-reading of the Council of Trent from the gender viewpoint is the main topic of this two-day conference that started this afternoon at the Fondazione Kessler offices in Via S. Croce and introduced by the director of the Centre for Religious Studies\, Antonio Autiero.
Autiero underlines that “this event\, that falls within the Foundation’s tradition of theological conferences in May held by the Centre for Religious Studies\, each year dedicated to a different theological theme reviewed in the light of the renovation promoted by the Second Vatican Council\, this year also features the fact of being conducted in cooperation with Coordinamento delle Teologhe Italiane and in particular through the synergy with its President\, who has offered us the opportunity to address a new issue”.
This afternoon’s session then continued with the papers by Harm Klueting\, of the University of Cologne (Germany) and Fribourg (Switzerland) and by Michele Cassese of the University of Trieste.
The experts respectively analyzed the profane and religious history of the 16th century in order to describe the type of Church and of society present in that century and then went on to define the historical\, religious and civil scenario of the times in which the Council of Trent was organized and held.
The Council of Trent\, as it has emerged from the papers presented\, is the final event of a long operation of Catholic reformation and was conducted within the world of politics and of fight for power. Indeed\, its implementation played a part in the political plots and controversies that flared between the Holy Roman Emperor and France\, that were the 16th century’s greatest powers.
These papers will be the basis for tomorrow’s session of the conference that will begin at 9.00 a.m. with discussions aimed at establishing whether the Council of Trent did or did not generate further exclusion of women from the Church.

“Oggi”\, ha proseguito Perroni\, “guardiamo al Concilio di Trento nella consapevolezza che il Concilio Vaticano II ha aperto una pagina nuova e quindi siamo coscienti che l’epoca tridentina è tramontata. Tuttavia il Concilio di Trento è un evento da cui bisogna necessariamente ripartire per assumere con cognizione storica e teologica il percorso della fede delle chiese e quindi anche delle donne”.
E proprio una rilettura del Concilio di Trento in prospettiva di genere vuole essere la “due giorni” avviata questo pomeriggio nella sede della Fondazione Kessler in via S. Croce e introdotta dal direttore del Centro per le Scienze Religiose Antonio Autiero.
“Un appuntamento”\, ha sottolineato Autiero\, ”che si inserisce nella tradizione dei convegni teologici di maggio del Centro per le Scienze Religiose\, dedicati ogni volta a una tematica teologica interpretata proprio a partire dal rinnovamento promosso dal Concilio Vaticano II\, ma che quest’anno ha la peculiarità di basarsi sulla collaborazione con il Coordinamento delle Teologhe Italiane\, e in particolare sulla sinergia con la sua Presidente che ci ha dato la possibilità di affrontare una tematica nuova”.
La sessione di questo pomeriggio è poi proseguita con le relazioni di Harm Klueting\, dell’Università di Colonia (Germania) e di Fribourg (Svizzera) e di Michele Cassese dell’Università degli Studi di Trieste.
Gli esperti hanno rispettivamente analizzato la storia profana e la storia religiosa del Cinquecento per descrivere il tipo di Chiesa e di società presenti nel Sedicesimo Secolo e quindi delineare il quadro storico\, religioso e civile dell’epoca in cui il Concilio di Trento venne pensato e realizzato.
Il Concilio di Trento - è emerso dalle relazioni - si colloca alla fine di un lungo percorso di riforma cattolica e si svolge all’interno del mondo della politica e dell’ambizione al potere. Anche la sua attuazione ha fatto parte degli intrighi della politica e delle controversie fra l’imperatore e la Francia\, le grandi potenze del XVI secolo.
Un’analisi che costituirà la base per le sessioni di domani del convegno. A partire dalle ore 9.00 si entrerà nel vivo della tematica per stabilire se il Concilio di Trento abbia o meno determinato un’ulteriore esclusione delle donne dalla Chiesa.

Venerdì 5 e sabato 6 giugno il seminario organizzato dal Centro per gli Studi storici italo-germanici della Fondazione Bruno Kessler.

Sarà dedicato alla figura del cardinale Giovanni Morone\, di cui si celebrano quest’anno i 500 anni dalla nascita\, il seminario organizzato per venerdì 5 e sabato 6 giugno a Trento dal Centro per gli Studi storici italo-germanici della Fondazione Bruno Kessler.
La “due giorni”\, coordinata da Massimo Firpo (Università di Torino) e da Ottavia Niccoli (Università di Trento)\, prenderà il via venerdì 5 alle ore 15.00 presso la sede della Fondazione Bruno Kessler in via S. Croce 77\, a Trento.
Gli esperti si confronteranno sull’intricato nodo della vita religiosa italiana degli anni ’60 del Cinquecento\, un momento cruciale per le contrastanti personalità dei pontefici regnanti in quegli anni e per l’emergere delle misure di controllo sulla vita morale\, religiosa e culturale che chiamiamo Controriforma.
Il seminario è organizzato in concomitanza con la mostra allestita dal Museo Diocesano Tridentino e dal Comune di Trento “L'uomo del Concilio. Il Cardinale Giovanni Morone tra Roma e Trento nell'età di Michelangelo” inaugurata il 4 aprile e che si chiuderà il 26 luglio.

Friday 5th and Saturday 6th of June are the two days dedicated to the seminar organized by the Centre for Italo-German Historical Studies of Fondazione Bruno Kessler.

(v.l.) A sensational trial for heresy\, incarceration by will of Pope Paul IV and then the role of pontifical legate in the closing phase of the Council of Trent.
These are the life story highlights of Cardinal Giovanni Morone\, whose 500th birth anniversary is being celebrated this year\, and topic of the seminar to be held on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th of June in Trento and organized by the Centre for Italo-German Historical Studies of Fondazione Bruno Kessler.
The two-day event\, coordinated by Massimo Firpo (University of Turin) and by Ottavia Niccoli (University of Trento)\, starts on Friday 5th at 3.00 p.m. at the headquarters of Fondazione Bruno Kessler in Via S. Croce 77 in Trento.
The experts will discuss the intricate events in the religious scenario of the 1560’s that proved crucial due to the contrasting personalities of the popes who ruled in that period and resulted in the final emergence of the measures for controlling moral\, cultural and religious life\, better known as the Counter-Reformation.

The seminar is organized in parallel with the exhibition held by the Diocesan Museum of Trento and the Municipality of Trento\, called “L'uomo del Concilio. Il Cardinale Giovanni Morone tra Roma e Trento nell'età di Michelangelo” (The Council’s man. Cardinal Giovanni Morone between Rome and Trento in Michelangelo’s era) inaugurated on April 4th and scheduled to close on July 26th.
